Shents looking for PB in Port Sunlight 10K

A message from Brian Shenton...

Hi all to Club members and guest readers,

This coming Sunday (11am) I’m running in the Port Sunlight 10k Race to try and raise awareness for our charity partner Vital Signs Foundation (VSF).

When we linked up with VSF in January it meant something extra to me as my family history is blighted with heart disease. My father had life-long heart problems from which he died in his early 60s, my mother also suffered from a “dicky-ticker” for many years and my younger brother has just had a major life saving operation as a result of a recently diagnosed congenital heart problem. Thankfully the family heart weakness has missed me out and I now intend to repay this good fortune by using my health and fitness to best help VSF. As you can imagine I know just how VITAL the work of VSF is in providing free heart screening to young people.

As my cricketing days are all but over I’ve gone back to my very first sporting love…running, a budding athletics “career” was put on hold in the 1960’s with cricket taking over my life. In the last couple of years I’ve donned the running shorts and shoes (a bit more expensive than the old green flash pumps) and feel fitter than I’ve felt for a long time.

I’ll be running on Sunday in a bright red VSF shirt and will be aiming to beat my previous time of 50.41 for the course. If anyone is daft enough to want to come down and cheer/barrack me, the race starts at 11 and all well I should be finishing around 11.45 to 11.50

Now for the “money-shot”….the Club has a Just Giving page that links to VSF and any donations would be welcome - just click HERE to donate!

Take care
Shents
