2's & 4's at home for the first time this season

On the day we celebrate the 43rd birthday of radio & TV legend, Vernon Kay we look ahead to an exciting day of action across all four sides.

Tom Marsland takes his 1st XI on the relatively short trip to Oulton Park to take on a team who finished third last season, just 32 pts off gaining promotion. They got off to a flyer last week beating relegated Urmston by five wickets when chasing down 195. Muhammad Kashif picked up four wickets and with Danny Leech top scored with 43. Tom’s XI see’s one enforced change with Matt Owen struggling to shake off last week’s knock so the experienced Rich Battersby comes in the skipper will be hoping to make Bolt On with a victory to kick-start the 2017 season.

At home, Tom Woods takes over the captaincy from brother James and will be hoping for the same Family Fortunes as the 2nd XI go in search of back to back victories against Neston. Neston will prove to be formidable opposition having cruised to the Premier Division title last season with a 57 point gap between them and their nearest rivals. Last week they get off to a perfect start with an eight wicket victory over Chester Boughton Hall with three wickets apiece for Woodland and Crick, and Garret (86) scoring the bulk of the runs. The side see’s a couple of other changes with Dave Charles stepping up from the 3’s after his match winning opening partnership last week, and Mike McGreary is back available to add some fire-power to the middle order.

Ian Sharrock’s 3rd XI make the trip out to Barnton to face their 2nd XI who won away at Stretton last week by three wickets. Appleton and Bowyer picked up four wickets apiece, and Blenkin contributed 62 with the bat. Having despatched of Chester Boughton Hall last week with ease, the 3’s will be looking to register another 25 points this week and is able to call on the services of pretty much the same XI from last week.

The 4th XI welcome Port Sunlight’s 3rd XI to Old Greasby Road and have a new ‘stand in’ skipper with Rob Chapman leading the side following last week’s skipper, Ian Bruce breaking his thumb. Their visitors had a high scoring draw last week against Frodsham. Following their defeat last week at Chester, the 4th XI will be looking to make a Splash and register their first victory and will be looking for that subtle blend of experience and youth to come to the fore.
