Your preview of the weekend ahead

On the day that marks the 123rd anniversary of Baron Pierre de Coubertin founding The International Olympic Committee (never let it be said we don’t educate you!) we look ahead to a weekend of cricket where the 1st and 2nd XI’s will be looking to get back to winning ways.

Tom Marsland’s 1st XI make the long trek to face a Marple side sitting two places above them in the table having won a third of their games this season. Marple pushed Widnes hard last week having posted 270 with James Crisall top scoring with 70 and then had them 9 down with Andy Wylie the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 34. Tom’s men will be going for gold and welcome back Matt Ingram to fold having overcome the hurdles of exams which have curtailed his season for the last few weeks.

At Old Greasby Road, Tom Woods leads the 2nd XI as they Marple 2’s make the trip in the opposite direction. Both teams have almost identical records with just three points separating them so there’s plenty to play for in this fixture. Runs have been evenly spread around for the visitors, but with the ball George Clarke leads the way with 16 victims to his name.

Ian Sharrock’s 3rd XI make a hop, kip & a jump over to Frodsham to face Stretton’s 2nd XI (their ground is unavailable) who currently are nestled in the bottom three having won just one game all season. However in Ehmed they have a powerful batsman who is averaging 52 this season and has 260 runs to his name.

On the back pitch, Simon Simcox’s 4th XI face Chester County Officers 2nd XI who sit comfortably in mid-table. With victory last week against Frodsham, the 4’s are starting to make the long jump out of the danger zone and a win on Saturday will certainly help that cause.
