30th June v Warwick University

As Fixture Secretary I am delighted to announce a tour fixture against the University of Warwick on Tuesday June 30th. Ben Cant has kindly agreed to captain the side on the day. We have over five weeks to put a side together and make arrangements for the fixture. I am keen to get things in place sooner rather than later so it would be great if people could register an interest in either playing in the game or helping out off the pitch as soon as possible.

I am very much hoping that we can play an afternoon game of around 40 overs. This obviously depends on the availability of people who may be at work during the day. The touring side would also be happy to play a shorter game in the evening if recruitment for a game during the afternoon proves tricky. We can make a final decision on the format of the game a bit nearer the time. By announcing the game at an early stage, people who wish to take part will at least have some time to make the necessary arrangements.

The tour organiser has kindly given me a bit of information about what is planned at the other clubs they are visiting. It would be wonderful if members could provide some suggestions about how best to cater for our visitors to Upton on June 30th. Many of us have played in tour games in Holland, Shropshire, North Wales, Somerset, Cumbria and doubtless numerous other locations. I have never been involved in a tour game from a hosting perspective so it will be good to put something back after enjoying marvellous cricketing hospitality in so many other places.

In the spirit of the recent Eggheads adventure it was a case of saying "yes" and then seeing what happens. Hopefully the day will be a great success and an opportunity to showcase all the recent developments at the club. If you wish to play in the game or to help out off the field, please let John Winder or Ben Cant know as soon as possible.

Regards
John Winder
Fixture Secretary
