And we're underway!

Just like that we find ourselves two weeks into the cricket season and it’s like we’ve never been away!

It’s been fantastic to get back underway and the buzz around the club in the first couple of weeks has been superb. Including our pre-season game against Caldy, we’ve seen bumper crowds for the three games so far which adds further testament to the belief we are one of (if not) the best supported clubs in Cheshire. For me, it’s about providing facilities that make people feel comfortable and I believe we do that pretty well. With that being said, I’m just chatting with the Treasurer about further investments into additional seating as we’re outgrowing our current capacity – not a bad problem to have!

Cricketing wise, it’s been great to welcome Lachlan Ford to the club, and he’s settled in really well. Early performances look encouraging and he’s definitely going to keep our supporters (and opposition batsmen) on their toes with his pace! A couple of mixed results to start with for the 1’s but I’ve every confidence the hard work put in over the winter will pay dividends. Having narrowly avoided relegation last season, the 2’s have got off to an absolute flyer with two wins out of two which is superb and sets them up for a good season. Likewise, the 4’s have a 100% record and growing in confidence each week.

Another area where the club is buzzing with a hive of activity is our Friday night Junior training. Numbers have been superb and will continue to grow. The facilities and coaching we offer, under the expert stewardship of Madeleine Ward, are second to none and something we should be rightly proud of as we offer cricket for all. I’d encourage anyone to come down and enjoy a drink and soak in the atmosphere on a Friday, it really is fantastic and bodes well for the future of the club.

On the ‘grounds’ and ‘house’ front I have to say I’ve never seen the place looking so good. I know I’m repeating myself here (several times over) but we are truly blessed with the most amazing volunteers who give up so much time to dedicate to making the club look so good. As always, a passing “thanks” goes a long way with the guys who do all this, or even better; drop them a pack of biscuits in for when they have their tea break(s) on a Tuesday or Friday morning. All joking aside, one of the reasons we are able to maintain our membership fees at the level we do is because of the hours and hours they put in, because if we had to pay for the work they do then our finances would be severely impacted.

Right, I’m going to finish now so you can get back to enjoying your Bank Holiday Monday.

I look forward to seeing you at the club in the coming weeks.

Cheers

Chairman
