Name Ian Bruce
How long have you been a member of UCC Since 1991
Away from UCC, what does your life look like? Married to Tricia ( an Upton CC vice president ), 2 children, 2 grandchildren and an LFC season ticket holder. Playing member of the Cheshire over 70’s XI.
What is your role on the Governing Committee/Playing field Grounds Chairman
What does your role involve Preparing and maintaining all aspects of the 2 playing areas and the surroundings.
How long have you been in this role 2 years
As a member of the committee, what are your ambitions for 2022 The primary one is to see the 1st XI promoted. Secondly, prepare a playing environment that we can be proud of.
Do you have a memorial moment you could share since being a member of UCC. Feel free to tell if more than one There are many but the outstanding ones are: captaining the 4th XI when Sophie played her first senior game at Burton CC and seeing her take her first 2 wickets for not many runs. Captaining the 4th XI for over 20 years, Playing for the over 40’s ( I was 67 ) in a game at Oxton and hitting the winning runs ( 9 ) in the final over and almost collapsing as there were no boundaries. Also arranging cricket tours to Holland from 1995 to 2013. Lastly, playing at the Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua for Cheshire Over 60s.
What are your ambitions for yourself To keep fit and work with the other “ old farts” to keep UCC looking professional and welcoming.
Do you play or have you played any other sport/s and if so at what level I played football in the Somerset League. I was not a good player but I could stop other people playing, as some members of UCC will remember.
What’s your most memorable moment from playing that other sport/s Winning the Cosham Hospital Cup ( Somerset ) in 1977.
What are your other interests Playing golf ( badly ) and DIY
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself that members may not know I have visited over 40 countries for work and pleasure.
Did you have a childhood hero and if so who Jimi Hendrix
Who is your favourite cricketer Clive Lloyd
If you have visited a test ground what’s your favourite and why Headingley – England v Australia - when Botham, Gower etc played
