Volunteers required to help run the club

Despite the ongoing Covid crisis the running of a cricket club never ceases. At this time of the year a notice is put up in the club looking for nominations for members to run for office in 2021. Although the notices have been put up, the way the season has gone, meant that there have been fewer opportunities for members to make nominations. All Senior Players, Retired Playing Members, Life Members and Vice Presidents are eligible to nominate or be nominated for any role.

This year there is another way for members to nominate other members for the various roles. This can be done via email into the clubs email address info@uptoncricketclub.com. Any nominations must be received by midnight Sunday 1st November.

For nominations, you must include the name of the member and the role. You will also need to supply contact details for yourself and the nominee. You must also have another member to second the nomination along with their contact details.

In the event of more than one person applying for a role a ballot will be held at the AGM to decide who will fill the post.

The roles for 2021 which form the Governing Committee are as follows:

Chairman, Vice Chairman
Hon Secretary, Treasurer
Grounds Chairman, Bar Chairman
House Chairman, Development Officer
Communications Officer, General Committee members x 2

In addition to the above the following roles also need filling:

Selection Chairman, Fixture Secretary
2nd XI Captain, 3rd XI Captain
4th XI Captain, Sunday 1st XI Captain
Ladies Captain , Over 40s Captain
League Representative x 2.

Upton prides itself on being a well run family orientated club. However, it can only continue to be successful if members get involved. I know there are many of our members with skills and abilities which will help ensure that the club moves forward and improves in all areas. Please don’t think that the current holders will be upset if they are challenged for their role. The more people we can get involved in the running of the club the better it bodes for our wellbeing.

The AGM will be held, probably via a Zoom call, on Thursday 3rd December.
