Four great games in prospect...

With a distinct lack of notable events from 12th July, we take a look back at the last time games fell on this date and go back to 2014 when we secured two wins, an abandoned game and a defeat from our four senior Saturday sides. The 1st hosted Heaton Mersey in a game that was abandoned after 91 overs in which Simon McGowan took 3 wickets and Darren Warburton top scored with 52. The 2’s made the trip the other way and came away victorious with Danny Newhouse the star of the show with 3 wickets and 42 runs. Out of character of recent years, the 3’s suffered defeat at the hands of Cheadle Hulme where Pete Jarvis top scored with 29 and Pravinder Singh took 2 wickets, and the 4’s cruised to victory over Haslington with the evergreen John Scragg taking 5 wickets.

Anyway, onto the current day and Tom Marsland returns from holiday to lead the 1’s in the sternest of tests against league leaders Bramhall. The gulf between the two sides is 84 points so not insurmountable and with a good result tomorrow things will start to look better. In the game scheduled for week two of the season, like most sides the game was cancelled due to the weather so there’s been no chance for each side to size each other up however the stats tell us that Bramhall have Cantello (298 runs) and Wilde (294 runs) in good form. Macciocchi leads the way with 20 wickets. Returning this week alongside the skipper are Chris Stowell-Smith and Liam Sundve.

The 2’s make the long trip to face Hyde who currently sit just one place above them in 10th so it footballing parlance it’s a real “6 pointer”. Despite their lowly position, Ben Balderson is having a fine season with the bat with 276 runs to his name and sits just below our own Sam Talbot (295 runs) in 5th place in the divisional standings.

Leading the way in Cheshire Cricket League Division A, Ian Sharrock’s 3rd XI welcome Weaverham 2’s to the back pitch. The visitors currently sit in the relegation zone but will be looking for star man; Jarrod Pickering (160 runs & 15 wickets) to bolster their chances of survival. The skipper himself is having a fine season and currently heads up the bowling charts with 30 wickets so far, 11 more than the chasing pack.

Looking to continue their current good form on the back of last week’s ten wicket win, Ian Bruce’s 4th XI make the short trip to face Irby 3’s. The hosts are not having the best of seasons having only won one game and currently sit in 12th place in Division C West.

On Sunday, the Ladies XI will be looking to bounce back from last weeks defeat when they welcome 7th placed Stockport Georgians. The visitors have won two of their 8 games this season and picked up 85 points along the way with Maddy White (115 runs) and Beth Garnett (11 wickets) the pick of the players. For the hosts, Charlie Scudder (146 runs) will be looking to put more pressure on the front runners in the divisional batting charts (currently 3rd)

Phil Wood’s Sunday 1st XI will be on the back pitch where they welcome Tranmere Vics in another game where our future talent will be on show and undoubtedly performing well under the skippers tutelage.

Whatever you do this weekend, enjoy your cricket.
