Big Saturday for 1s and 2s..........

Sorry folks but on the day very few interesting people were born I will stick to what is happening on the pitch this weekend. I could of course mention the start of a certain minor football league this weekend but as we all know the proper football league started last saturday!!!

With only 6 weeks of the season left Saturdays game at Romiley is massive for both teams as they look to preserve their League status. After last weeks win over Sale the Firsts will be looking to repeat their victory over Romiley earlier in the season. Romiley on 154 pts are 15 points ahead of us. They also won last week so there tails will be high. Badrock, Ralph and Ashley have been scoring the runs for them this season with Andrew taking the wickets. Skipper Marsland returns after his trip to Amsterdam so lets hope he is on a high! Urmston (161 pts) and Sale (163 pts) are just ahead of us so any win could take us closer to safety.

Back at Upton, a rejuvenated 2nd team face a difficult task against league leaders Chester Boughton Hall. Coming in off the back of last weeks victory over Grappenhall the 2s will face a stern test against the table toppers who in Metcalf, Griffiths and Vickery have batsmen in form. Riley and Fisher are the top wicket takers for them.A win for Tommy's boys will push them closer to the three teams above them as they look to preserve their Premier League status for another season.

A different kind of worry for the 3rds as they travel to Port Sunlight to play their second team. Having been table toppers for virtually the whole season they suddenly find Didsbury breathing down their necks only 3 points behind them. Still a repeat of the early season victory over Port Sunlight should calm some of the concerns. Barnes and Roberts are the batsmen to watch and our ex-player Brooks with 19 wkts this season will be looking to put a spanner in our works.

On the back the 4ths host Port Sunlight 3rds for the first time this season.Currently sitting in 5th place the visitors are a couple of places above the 4ths. In Parsons, Davies and Wilkinson they have three batsmen who have all scored 300 plus runs this season so it should be an entertaining game.

On Sunday our Women's team travel to Wistaston. With Cath's team sitting 3rd in the League on paper it looks an easy game against their hosts who are currently bottom of the League. However, anyone knows that is never the case and they will have to watch out for Bennett and Reign who have both scored over a hundred runs this season and Hobson who has taken 38 wickets so far.

Finally if you still need a cricket fix on Sunday then Phil woods Sunday 1st XI entertain Newsham Park at the UCG.

So a big weekend for the 1s and 2s and lets hope they can capitalise on last weeks wins and start climbing their Leagues.
