On yet another dismal weekend of weather only two of our teams completed their games and neither won.
The Firsts travelled to fellow strugglers Romiley in what was a true 6 pointer as they say in other sports. On winning the toss Tom inserted Romiley and they had two down with only 14 on the board. However they rallied as the third wicket put on nearly 100. From 105 for 3 Romiley were bowled out for 163 with Dave Williams 6 for 45 starring with the ball. Openers Owen and Roberts got us off to a great start with a 50 partnership but apart from a 40 odd partnership between Ingram and Smith there were no other significant contributions as we were all out for 132.
Amazingly just down the road from Upton in Port Sunlight the Thirds got a full game in against their second team. Again winning the toss we asked Sunlight to bat and the accumulated 168 for 8 off their 45 overs. In response the Thirds were bowled out for 90 giving Port Sunlight some revenge for their early season defeat at the UCG.
On Saturday the UCG looked more like a swimming pool. The Seconds only managed 3 overs before they abandoned their game. On the back the more hardy Fourths asked Port Sunlight to bat. When Phil Wood “Splashed” rather than pitched the final ball of the 16th over Port Sunlight 3rds were on 58 for 2 and we decided to swim back to the pavilion and abandon the game.
Both games on Sunday were called off due to the weather. Let’s hope that next weekend fortunes for our teams and the weather are looking up!
