Get To Know Your Committee

Upton Cricket Club Getting To Know You
This week it's the turn of The Silver Fox So let's see what Rob has to say.

Name
Rob Chapman

How long have you been a member of UCC
44 years

Away from UCC, what does your life look like?
Happily retired. Married to Jane for 44yrs with 3 sons and now 3 grandchildren

What is your role on the Governing Committee/Playing field
Secretary. 4th Team All rounder.

What does your role involve
Ensuring the admin of the club runs smoothly in order that to provide a first class cricket club for our members.

How long have you been in this role
9 yrs

As a member of the committee, what are your ambitions for 2022
To write a set of minutes with the correct use of capitals!

Do you have a memorable moment you could share since being a member of UCC. Feel free to tell if more than one
Far too many in my years but getting my first 50 of my career away at Neston in my first season in 1978 was a special one, especially as we beat them. Also that year I scored my first ton against the might of Metal Box CC. I am still waiting for my special bowling moment which will be when I get the first League wicket of my career. Knowing the captains at this club my 6 yr old granddaughter will probably beat me to this landmark!

What are your ambitions for yourself
To get that next ton and that first league wicket.

Do you play or have you played any other sport/s and if so at what level
I used to play Sunday League football back home in Walsall. My team, Mount Athletic, won only 2 games all season so I know how Everton fans feel at the moment! I now play Walking Football and regularly get pulled up for running.

What’s your most memorable moment from playing that other sport/s
Winning my first winners medal at 64 in a Walking Football tournament.

What are your other interests
Following probably the finest football team in the world, yes you have guessed it, Walsall. I also enjoy reading, mainly thrillers, listening to proper music ie anything from Tamla and the 70s, exploring Cheshire pubs and being run ragged by my Grandchildren.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself that members may not know
I am the Secretary of the Liverpool Branch of the Walsall FC Supporters Club (only member so far for some reason).

Did you have a childhood hero and if so who
I have a problem with the word hero as I feel it can only apply to someone willing to sacrifice their life for someone else not some overpaid sporting or theatrical prima donnas. I do admire anyone who overcomes a disability and makes the most of their life.
The person I most admired in my childhood was my Dad.

Who is your favourite cricketer
David Gower. I have been told we have similar batting styles!

If you have visited a test ground what’s your favourite and why
Lords. Great atmosphere.

My Thanks to Rob as he admits himself some of his answers were made with the tongue firmly entrenched in the cheek. Next week see's the turn of Nigel Sharrock. (Heaven help us)
