Just when we thought the new signings had slowed down, we’re delighted to share another exciting update as Upton Cricket Club welcomes a real family addition ahead of the 2026 season.
Headlining the move is Adam Neal, who joins from New Brighton Cricket Club, alongside his brother Sam Neal in what is very much a family move that fits perfectly with the ethos and values of Upton CC.
Adam arrives with a huge amount of experience from the Liverpool Competition, having served as New Brighton’s 1st XI Captain and Cricket Chairman. An accomplished opening batsman, Adam has played 190 1st XI games since 2009 and is also a highly regarded wicketkeeper, with 130 catches and 64 stumpings to his name. His skills behind the stumps will make him an able deputy to Tom Marsland and add real depth and quality to the senior squad.
Alongside Adam, we’re pleased to welcome his brother Sam Neal, a young and up-and-coming batter who featured mainly in New Brighton’s 3rd XI last season. Sam will add further strength in depth across the senior sides and is another exciting prospect to bring into the Upton setup.
Adam said:
“I’m really delighted to join Upton CC for the upcoming season! After talking with Tom it’s clear that the club has a strong vision, good values and has been making fantastic progress over the last few years. I’m looking forward to getting started, meeting up with the lads and hopefully helping Upton to continued success on and off the pitch!”
1st XI Captain Tom Marsland added:
“We’re delighted that Adam has decided to come and play his cricket with Upton, he brings with him bags of experience and proven quality at a really good level. From speaking with Adam, he totally gets what we’re trying to do as a club, and is ready and raring to go at Upton, both on and off field.
As well as Adam, we’re welcoming his brother Sam, who joins us on the back of a really strong season, winning New Brighton’s 3rd XI batting award, and will offer us further strength in depth throughout the sides.”
The arrival of Adam and Sam is another strong reflection of the positive direction Upton CC is heading in — combining smart recruitment with the values of togetherness, opportunity and community that sit at the heart of the club.
We’re thrilled to welcome Adam and Sam to Upton and look forward to also welcoming the wider Neal family into the club environment as the season approaches.
