Your preview to the weekend's cricketing action

This weekend see's three of the four Upton teams face sides who are bottom of their league, however as Benjamin E. Mays said, “The tragedy of life is often not in our failure, but rather in our complacency; not in our doing too much, but rather in our doing too little; not in our living above our ability, but rather in our living below our capacities”.

On the road, making the trip over to Stockport to face Bredbury St. Marks, Andy Roberts names an unchanged side after last week’s winning draw against league leaders Bollington. Bredbury haven’t made the best of starts and are currently on bottom of the table on 35 points having lost last week to Congleton.

At the UCG, Matt Owen’s 2nd XI will be looking to continue their recent good form when they take on near neighbours Oxton. After spending the first couple of months of the season squandering his father’s money, sorry I mean studying hard in Newcastle, Matt Smith makes a return to Upton colours in a side that welcomes back Mike McGreary and Harry Cross.

Also welcoming Oxton to the UCG are Charlie Wards 3rd XI who despite defeat last week put in a strong performance at Neston. Oxton are tucked in just behind Upton in the table so a real close game could be in store.

Making the short trip down the road to Irby, Ian Bruce takes his 4th XI which once again shows players from both ends of the age spectrum. Irby are sitting bottom of the table however local derbies always have the possibility of throwing up some uncertainties.

On Sunday, the Sunday 1st XI welcome Newsham Park to the UCG. The visitors are steeped in history dating back to the 19th century, but with somewhat of a gap in the middle! A Newsham Park C.C was formed in 1895 and Whitefield C.C played on their current ground in the 1950's but no cricket was played for fifty years until the formation of the present Newsham Park Club in 2010.

Whatever you do this weekend, enjoy your cricket!
