Sam joins from the GMCL

Upton Cricket Club is thrilled to officially welcome Sam Williams to the club, following his recent move from Thornham Cricket Club, who play in the highly competitive Greater Manchester Cricket League.

Although a new resident to the area, Sam has already made his presence felt at Upton, having turned out for three different sides in recent weeks. A talented bowler with a strong sporting background — including playing for England age group teams in hockey — Sam brings both athletic pedigree and a passion for development.

Speaking about the move, Sam said:
“I’m looking forward to playing for a brilliant and exciting cricket club with lots of history. I’m hoping to improve my bowling and batting skills to develop into an allrounder cricketer.”

His integration into the club has been seamless, thanks in no small part to his proactive and genuine approach. Before committing to UCC, Sam took time midweek to attend a 1st XI T20 at Alvanley, where he introduced himself to players and supporters alike, making an impression with his enthusiasm and curiosity.

Dave Smith, Upton CC Cricket Chairman, commented:
“We’re absolutely delighted to have Sam on board. Several new players have boosted our ranks this season, but Sam, having moved to the area, was careful to find out as much as he could about us. He took himself, midweek, to a 1s T20 at Alvanley and made a point of talking to as many players and followers as he could. His decision to join was based on the warmth of everyone at the club and this remains our greatest selling point. Sam has already represented three different sides — proof enough that he has embraced the UCC spirit.”

Sam’s arrival strengthens an already deepening squad at Upton, and the club looks forward to supporting his continued growth on and off the field.
