Week 2 preview

1st XI v Cheadle Hulme (a)
Date/Time: Sat 30 April |12pm
Preview: The 1st XI opened their campaign last week with a high scoring draw, closing on 196/7 chasing 220 to win. With the ball, Dave Williams picked up 4 wickets and three batsmen (Matt Smith 49, Lachlan Ford 45* and Matt Owen 44) narrowly missing out on half centuries. Cheadle Hulme were on the wrong end of a defeat having been bowled out for 109 by Warrington, who knocked the runs off for the loss of 2 wickets. Matt Owen is fortunate to be able to call on the same XI as last week as they look to register a good performance on the road.
Previous Meeting: 1 August 2021 – Cheshire Shield: Upton won by 5 wickets closing on 198/5 chasing 195 to win. Matt Smith (58) top scored & Phil McGowan (3-42) led with the ball

2nd XI v WIDNES (H)
Date/Time: Sat 30 April |12pm
Preview: It’s not every week you get two centuries (Ian Potter 131, Luca DiStefano 101*) in a game, and throw in a ‘5fer’ (Rich Battersby 5-68) it was a pretty decent day last Saturday as the 2’s took the spoils away at Timperley. Saturday’s opponents Widnes had pretty much a perfect outing last week as they skittled Macclesfield for just 95 and cruised home by 10 wickets. Sam Talbot is able to bolster last week’s XI with the Tom Woods and Mike McGreary in an otherwise unchanged XI.
Previous Meeting: 7 July 2018 – Widnes won by 6 wickets chasing 164/8 (Tom Woods 55, Alex Woods 50).

3rd XI v Barrow (a)
Date/Time: Sat 30 April |12pm
Preview: After last week’s showing, Ian Sharrock’s 3rd XI will be looking to kickstart their campaign with a victory as they head to Barrow’s picturesque ground. The side is bolstered by Gav Byrom, Paddy Delaney who both make their first start of the season and Sol Turner who starred with the bat last week for the 4’s. Barrow were on the winning side of a draw last week (12pts to Stockport’s 6) and will equally be looking to register their first victory.
Previous Meeting: 14 July 2018 – Upton won by 20 runs posting 207/8 (Graeme McGowan 69, Ian Sharrock 7-18)

4th XI v APPLETON (H)
Date/Time: Sat 30 April |1pm
Preview: It was the perfect start for new 4’s skipper Kev Jackson last week as his side posted 190ao (Sol Turner 58) and restricted Irby to 160-6 (Kev Jackson 2-34). Appleton also inflicted defeat on Irby, this time their 4’s (we played their 3’s), bowling them out for 112 as they defended 181-6. Could this be an early season battle of two of the fancied teams this year…
Previous Meeting: 6 Aug 2016 – Upton won by 7 wickets posting 180-3 (Akhtar Ali 59) chasing 178 to win

Ladies XI v Sefton Park (H)
Date/Time: Sun 1 May |12pm
Preview: After a convincing victory last Sunday where Woodley were bowled out for just 39 (Phillipa Dagger 5-8), Lily Scudders Ladies XI will be looking to continue with victory over Sefton Park in the Liverpool Competition ‘Super 8s’.
Previous Meeting: 16 May 2021 – Upton won by 38 having posted 114-4 (Philippa Dagger 47, Ellen McGowan 6-13)
