Your weekend preview…

1st XI vs Cheadle Hulme (H)
Saturday 21st June | 12:00
Preview: As we near the halfway stages of the season, Matt Owen’s 1st XI have slumped a bit in form after a good start to our returning season to division 2. Whilst a good run in the T20 competition was ended midweek away to Chester, our chances of promotion certainly haven’t ended but Matt’s side need to get back to winning ways this week. Where better to do that than at Home to an equally positioned Cheadle Hulme side. Mo is able to call upon Umer Zeb, Dave Williams and Luke Camden for the first time in a few weeks. Cheadle Hulme have had a very contrasting run of form, winning 3 of their last 4 league games, including a 74-run victory last week. Facing Stockport, Cheadle Hulmes batsmen got their side in a formidable position at the halfway point scoring 280/1 (Oliver Willett 115*), before bowling Stockport out for 206.
League Positions: Upton - 8th (102 pts) Cheadle Hulme 7th (103pts)
Leading Run Scorer: Upton – Chris McArthur (459) Cheadle Hulme - Adam Wilde (459)
Leading Wicket Taker: Upton – Phil McGowan (23) Cheadle Hulme - Tom Balderson (18)
Previous Meeting: 16th July 2022, Cheadle Hulme won by 5 wickets. After being stuck into bat, Upton were bowled out for 137 (Matt Owen 29). Cheadle cruised home 5 down in the 37th over (Dave Williams 3/43).

2nd XI vs Lindow (a)
Saturday 21st June | 12:00
Preview: Batt’s leads his high-flying 2nd XI to (on paper) their toughest test of the season so far in a top of the table tussle against Lindow. Losing just twice all year, Upton are in fantastic form and have timed their availability worries to perfection with their strongest side available for the biggest game. Down from the 1s last week are Keeno and Warbo who add experience to this young side. Lindow however, are no mugs and are top of the league for good reason, losing just once so far this season.
League positions: Upton 2nd (138 pts) Lindow 1st (148pts)
Leading Run scorer: Upton – Joe Green (149) Lindow - Rob Herriott (300)
Leading Wicket Taker: Upton – Graeme Keenan (13) Lindow – George Thompson (16)
Previous Meeting: 17th September 2022, Lindow won by 8 wickets. With Lindow already crowned champion and Upton relegated, the game was not exactly a classic. Upton were bowled out for nelson (Sam Talbot 44). Lindow reached their target after just 21 over, Faiz Ahmed picking up his first Senior Wicket.

3rd XI vs Urmston 2nd XI (H)
Saturday 21st June | 12:00
Preview: After last week’s heroics, Luke Williams will be hoping his side can pull even more clear towards the top half of the league as they return home to face Urmston. Luke had to make a very tough decision this week, dropping his dad and bringing in Joe Smith, Sam Williams, Dave Stewart and Jack Presswell. Urmston are a good side losing just once in their last four games but if our 3s want a poke at promotion, these are the types of games they will need to win.
League Positions: Upton 5th (99 pts) Urmston 3rd (136 pts)
Leading Run Scorer: Upton – Faiz Ahmed (106) Urmston - Ishaan Devaramani (181)
Leading Wicket Taker: Upton – Ian Sharrock (14) Urmston - Craig Horner (23)
Previous Meeting: N/A

4th XI vs Alvanley 3rd XI (a)
Saturday 21st June | 1:00
Preview: After a fantastic bowling performance last time out, Phils 4th XI will be hoping they are finally stepping in the right direction this year. They take the short trip to fellow strugglers Alvanley in a must win game for both sides. The side is strengthened by 4 changes with Nick and John Cockrell, Clive Moor and Sean Cooper adding to the side blend of youth and experience. Alvanley also won last week, defeating our Wirral Counterparts Maritime in spectacular fashion, bowling them out for just 37.
League Positions: Upton 12th (53 pts) Alvanley 10th (59 pts)
Leading Run Scorer: Upton - Phil Wood (288) Alvanley - Josh Nicholson (68)
Leading Wicket Taker: Upton – Phil Wood (14) Alvanley - David Bergstrand (14)
Previous Meeting: N/A
