Your weekend preview...

1st XI vs Stockport (A)
Date/Time: Sat 28 June | 12pm
Preview: Matt Owen will be hoping his side can build on last week’s successful 201 run chase against Cheadle Hulme when they travel to Stockport this Saturday. Currently in mid-table as we approach the halfway point of the season, there are three changes to the 1s this week with Sophie Morris, Darren Warburton and Mike Yeates all coming up from the 2s. Stockport may be near the foot of the table but Upton will have to watch out for dangerous all-rounder Naveed Gondal, who is the league’s second highest run scorer while also having taken the third most wickets.
League Position: Upton – 6th (122 pts) | Stockport – 10th (104 pts)
Leading Run Scorers: Upton – Chris McArthur (409) | Stockport – Naveed Gondal (522)
Leading Wicket Takers: Upton – Phil McGowan (16) | Stockport – Naveed Gondal (17)
Previous Meeting: 3 July 2021: Stockport were all out for 146 (David Williams 4-53) in 31.2 overs but the match ended in a draw with both sides closing in on victory – Upton finishing on 141-8 (Matt Owen 47) after 34 overs.

2nd XI vs MARITIME (H)
Date/Time: Sat 28 June | 12pm
Preview: This should be a great contest between two promoted sides who find themselves in the promotion hunt once again. Graeme Keenan takes on the captaincy in Rich Battersby’s absence and there are five changes from the side that lost to league leaders Lindow by 61 runs last Saturday. Ian Potter, Joe Smith, Liam Sundve and Tom Woods return to the team while Sam Williams is promoted from the 3s after a 5-wicket haul on debut last week. It’s a short trip up the M53 for Maritime, who leapfrogged Upton into 2nd place after beating Didsbury by 3 wickets last time out.
League Position: Upton – 3rd (144 pts) | Maritime – 2nd (147 pts)
Leading Run Scorers: Upton – Joe Green (163) | Maritime – Bilal Anwar (357)
Leading Wicket Takers: Upton – Graeme Keenan (18) | Maritime – Prarajasingam Sathakaran (17)
Previous Meeting: 10 August 2024: Maritime won by 124 runs after making 277 all out (Liam Sundve 4-22). Upton could only manage 153 (Will Clayton 32) in just under 40 overs in reply.

3rd XI vs Warrington 2nd XI (A)
Date/Time: Sat 28 June | 12pm
Preview: Having played their 3s and 4s a lot over the years, this appears to be the first time the Upton 3s have played Warrington 2s. Luke Williams makes five changes this week, with an experienced cavalry of Gav Byrom, Nick and Jonathan Cockrell, Matt Morris and Charlie Ward coming into the side. The skipper will be hoping for a positive outcome this week, having lost a very winnable game against Urmston 2s by 20 runs last time out, and it’s a great opportunity to do so against an opponent sat at the bottom of the table. However, Warrington appear to have found some form, beating Oakmere by 108 runs last week.
League Position: Upton – 7th (105 pts) | Warrington – 12th (86 pts)
Leading Run Scorers: Upton – George Williams (137) | Warrington – Sukhwant Sandhu (229)
Leading Wicket Takers: Upton – Ian Sharrock (15) | Warrington – Debayan Dey (11)
Previous Meeting: N/A

4th XI vs MERE EUROPA 1ST XI (H)
Date/Time: Sat 28 June | 1pm
Preview: Despite sitting in the relegation spots after a tough first half of the season, the 4s will be searching for their third win of the year as they host Mere Europa 1s on Saturday. Phil Wood will be hoping for a better outcome than when they played the other 1st XI in the division, Cholmondeley, a few weeks ago! There are four changes this week, as Ethan Evans, Jack Presswell and Dylan Sandison come into the side, while Sihena Gamekankanamge makes his senior Saturday debut for the club. Mere Europa most recently lost by 8 wickets to Maritime but have one to watch in leading run scorer and wicket taker Sanket Vyas.
League Position: Upton – 11th (58 pts) | Mere Europa – 8th (85 pts)
Leading Run Scorers: Upton – Phil Wood (295) | Mere Europa – Sanket Vyas (180)
Leading Wicket Takers: Upton – Phil Wood (15) | Mere Europa – Sanket Vyas (12)
Previous Meeting: N/A

Ladies XI vs NORTHOP HALL (H)
Date/Time: Sun 29 June | 1:30pm
Preview: Following their first league defeat of the season two weeks ago against Didsbury 2s, Ellen McGowan will be looking for a response from her side as they host Northop Hall. A win would see Upton jump back to the top of the table ahead of Didsbury before the two sides meet again in a couple of weeks. Ellen makes two changes to the team, with Phoebe Hett and Cath Williams all coming in. Northop Hall played in the only league fixture last weekend, beating Greenfield by 9 wickets after successfully chasing 156.
League Position: Upton – 2nd (105 pts) | Northop Hall – 3rd (93 pts)
Leading Run Scorers: Upton – Charlie Scudder & Lily Scudder (209) | Northop Hall – Hollie Sigsworth (209)
Leading Wicket Takers: Upton – Alexa Harrison (9) | Northop Hall – Abbey Young (8)
Previous Meeting: 11 May 2025: Upton won by 16 runs after batting first and posting 168/6 (Charlie Scudder 61*). Northop Hall fell short, scoring 152/5 (Lily Scudder 2-29).

Sunday 1st XI vs CHESTER COUNTY OFFICERS SUNDAY 1st XI (H)
Date/Time: Sun 29 June | 1.30pm
Preview: There are two games to come down and see at Old Greasby Road this Sunday, as the Sunday 1s entertain Chester County Officers. As ever, Phil Wood puts out a team that blends youth and experience with five players coming into the side this week: Faiz Ahmed, Nathan Jones, Dylan Sandison, Charlie Saunders and Sully Smith. Following a couple of rare defeats recently, the Sundays 1s will be looking for back-to-back wins after beating Newsham Park by 5 wickets last weekend. Chester County Officers faced Chirk ‘Strollers’ last time out, but the match was abandoned after CCO scored 219-5 in 30 overs.
Previous Meeting: 30 June 2024: Upton won by 7 wickets after bowling Chester County Officers out for 139 (Phil Wood 4-11) in 30.4 overs. Upton reached the target in 32.1 overs, scoring 142/3 (Callum McCormick 50*).
