Your weekend preview...

1st XI vs Haslington (a)
Date/Time: Sat 5 September | 11.30am
Preview: Tom Marsland’s 1st XI face a huge test this weekend as the table-toppers travel to second-placed Haslington with promotion and the league title firmly in their sights. Five points from the game would guarantee Upton promotion to Division 1, while victory would see the 1st XI crowned league champions, setting up a potentially historic afternoon for the club. The 1s made the most of being the only Division 2 side to get a game in last Saturday, securing an important victory over Cheadle Hulme. There were also individual landmarks, with Luke Camden moving into second place in the divisional run-scoring charts, while Phil McGowan climbed to the top of the bowling charts. There is one change to the side this week, with Mike Yeates returning to the XI. Haslington will provide a stern test, having won seven of their last eight games before last Saturday's abandonment. They'll be looking to finish the season strongly and keep their own promotion hopes alive. With so much at stake for both sides, this promises to be a huge afternoon of cricket.
League Position: Upton – 1st (307 pts) | Haslington – 2nd (283 pts)
Leading Run Scorers: Upton – Luke Camden (718) | Haslington – Ben Istead (626)
Leading Wicket Takers: Upton – Phil McGowan (39) | Haslington – Freddie Taylor (35)
Previous Meeting: 20 June 2026: Upton won by 180 runs having posted a whopping 317-5 (Lee Dixon, 72, Nathan Brown 53, Luke Camden 51) and then bowled Haslington out for 137 (Nathan Brown 4-18)

2nd XI vs CHESTER BH (H)
Date/Time: Sat 5 September | 11.30am
Preview: Upton 2nd XI welcome Chester Boughton Hall this weekend with plenty to play for at both ends of the table. The 2s currently sit 13 points clear of the relegation zone, but with the bottom two sides facing each other this Saturday, the battle for survival could tighten considerably by the end of the weekend. Chester Boughton Hall still have their eyes on the title too. They sit 28 points off top spot, meaning there's still a mathematical chance of them clinching the championship, although they'll know they need results to go their way elsewhere. Like the 1st XI, the 2s secured a precious victory last weekend in the only game played in the Premier Division, beating bottom-placed Neston to give themselves some valuable breathing space. There are three changes to the Upton side this week, with Sam Talbot, Luca DiStefano and Tom Woods coming into the XI. With both sides having plenty to play for, another important contest awaits at Upton as the 2s look to build on last week's victory and put further distance between themselves and the relegation places.
League Position: Upton – 10th (104 pts) | Chester BH – 3rd (280 pts)
Leading Run Scorers: Upton – Darren Warburton (496) | Chester BH – Charlie Fleet (494)
Leading Wicket Takers: Upton – Tom Wood (36) | Chester BH – Dan Riley (38)
Previous Meeting: 20 June 2026: Chester BH won by 125 runs having posted 286-6 (Tom Wood 3-58, Callum McCormick 3-83) and then bowled Upton out for 161 (Sam Talbot 44)

3rd XI vs Warrington 2s (a)
Date/Time: Sat 5 September | 11.30am
Preview: Upton 3rd XI face a tough trip this weekend as they travel to second-placed Warrington, who currently sit 37 points ahead of the 3s in the table. The 3rd XI can still mathematically finish in the top two, although with the season entering its final stages, they require snookers! Upton were one of only two teams in the division to get a game in last weekend despite the weather but unfortunately came away on the wrong side of a defeat against Ashton-on-Mersey. There are five changes to the side this week as Upton look to strengthen the XI, with Luke Williams, George Godwin, Charlie Ward, Dave Stewart and Nick Cockrell all coming into the team. Warrington will be looking to strengthen their position in second place, but the 3s will be determined to put last week's defeat behind them and finish the season strongly.
League Position: Upton – 4th (275 pts) | Warrington – 2nd (307 pts)
Leading Run Scorers: Upton – Jonathan Cockrell (303) | Warrington – Hassan Bukhari (382)
Leading Wicket Takers: Upton – Simon McGowan (35) | Warrington – Swarn Singh Sandhu (38)
Previous Meeting: 20 June 2026: Upton won by just 19 runs having been bowled out for 160 and then bowling Warrington out for 141 (Jon Cockrell 4-19)

4th XI vs WIRRAL 2s (H)
Date/Time: Sat 5 September | 1.00pm
Preview: Upton 4th XI make the short trip down the M53 this weekend to take on Wirral 2nd XI. The 4s head into the game in good spirits after making the most of playing on Sunday last weekend at Irby due to pitch availability. Upton posted an impressive 208-4 before restricting Irby to 132 to secure a convincing victory. Wirral have enjoyed an excellent campaign, winning 14 of their 18 matches, although they did come unstuck three weeks ago against Chester County Officers. Chasing 180 for victory, Wirral were bowled out for 147 to suffer one of their few defeats of the season. There are just two changes to the Upton side this week, with Sully Smith and Stephen Redfern both returning after featuring for the 3rd XI last weekend. The 4s will be hoping to carry the momentum from their impressive win over Irby into another tough fixture as they look to upset one of the division's leading sides.
League Position: Upton – 4th (215 pts) | Wirral – 1st (262 pts)
Leading Run Scorers: Upton – Phil Wood (614) | Wirral – Josh Cooke (503)
Leading Wicket Takers: Upton – Alexa Harrison (34) | Wirral – Mark Raynor (18)
Previous Meeting: 20 June 2026: Wirral won by 40 runs having posted 162-8 (Euan Walton 4-24), with Upton being bowled out for 122 (Phil Wood 40)

Ladies XI vs Greenfield (a)
Date/Time: Sun 6 September | 12.30pm
Preview: Upton Ladies XI make the trip to Oldham this weekend to face Greenfield. The Ladies will be hoping for better fortune this week after last weekend’s washout at Lindow, where only five overs were possible before the weather brought an early end to proceedings. Greenfield come into the game on the back of a convincing victory over Lindow in their last outing. Chasing a target of 129, they reached the total inside 22 overs to secure a four-wicket win.
