On a glorious sunny Sunday, the Ladies 1st XI secured a 30-run victory over Hayfield CC at their picturesque Derbyshire ground.
After winning the toss, Hayfield elected to field, a decision that seemed wise as Upton posted a relatively low total of 90 runs in 31.5 overs. Despite the modest score, there were notable performances from Upton's batters. Lily Scudder top-scored with 24 runs off 37 balls, providing some stability at the crease. Praba Ranasinghe also contributed 17 runs to the team's total. Abi Battersby came in lower down the order and provided some crucial rns with some fine hitting around the game to finish on 15 not out. Hayfield's bowlers were effective throughout the innings, with Olivia Doody and Ella Kassim each taking two wickets, causing Upton's wickets to fall at regular intervals.
In response, Hayfield was bowled out for 60 runs in 26.3 overs. Ruth Lomas and Sarah McCann offered some resistance, scoring 13 and 10 runs, respectively. However, Upton's bowlers put up an impressive performance, with Lily Scudder and Alexa Harrison each taking four wickets and Hannah McGowan with two. Their disciplined bowling and strategic field placements pegged the Hayfield batters back, ultimately leading Upton to victory.
