The Ladies secured a 92-run lead over the Derbyshire team, Hayfield.
Hayfield won the toss and put us into bat first. With a strong line up and eager to bat, we were ready. An early wicket was taken by Bo Singleton, Hayfield felt they had a good lead. However we had some top performances and huge contributions from Charlie Scudder 80 not out, Lily Scudder 66, Alexa Harrison 16 and Ellen McGowan 14. We finished on 208 and only lost 4 wickets.
Going out to field with 208 on the board we felt very confident. The wind had picked up and the sun had disappeared.
An early dismissal for opening batter Sarah McCann from bowled (Philippa Dagger and caught behind (Ellen McGowan) left Upton on a high and on track for a good start. After 10 overs Hayfield were on 32 runs for 1.
Change of bowling meant it was time for Alexa Harrison to come on. The change definitely was worth it. Hayfield struggled to play the spin bowling against Lily Scudder and Alexa. Lily took a wicket and Alexa managed to make sure no batting partnerships were formed by taking 4 wickets. Our fielding was on top form by strategically restricting the boundaries and applying the pressure to restrict singles for new batters. Phoebe Hett took an important wicket for us, bowling out Gillian Spragg, their top scorer of 37 runs.
Liv Taylor, Jess Lamb and Abi Battersby all took 1 wicket each. It was a joint effort to finish the game with the last wicket taken by Abi's bowling and an amazing 1 handed diving catch from Charlie Scudder at mid-on.
Then it was all over with Hayfield all our for 116.
Upton with another fantastic win under their belts are currently at the top of the divisions table.
